Castell dels Sorells was the first Cava producer in Valencia when it was established in 1981. Their first Cavas were marketed in 1983, hence its special status as the only Valencian Cava producer allowed outside the area of Requena. They are based in Turís, though the name comes from a fifteenth-century castle in Albalat dels Sorells where they started out, and which the current winery is a replica of.
The bodega has learned a few things during its 26 years, and one of them is to constantly expand and develop. They have historically sold most of their wine outside Spain, where their reputation continues to grow. The Castell dels Sorells Brut and Brut Nature both won silver medals at Germany’s prestigious Mundus Vini in 2009. Their Cuvée Satén won a bronze medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards in April 2009. They are spearheading Valencian wines’ entry into the Chinese market with a contract to supply a minimum of 700,000 bottles over the next 10 years.
