Casa Sicilia dates from 1707, during the time of the first Marqués de la Romana, as the house of work dedicated to the production of fruit, wine and oil.
Nearly three centuries later, the wines of Cesilia Heretat combine the art of traditional production, with the most modern technological means to achieve a unique result: quality wines recognized by the press and critics.
Only 1 km from the historic center of Novelda and 27 km from Alicante, stands Heretat of Cesilia cellar on the estate Casa Sicilia. Surrounded by vineyards with excellent views to the sanctuary of Santa Maria.
The farm house Sicilia, has 80 hectares of own vineyards, of which 30 are planted with wine varieties, mostly Monastrell, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah for reds, Macabeo, Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay for whites, and some varieties being tested such as the Petit Verdot, Albariño and Loureira.
The northern part of the estate is made up of clay and gypsum, associated with a low content of organic matter, allowing a good aromatic expression and ensuring a good structure of the reds. The southern area consists of alluvial river gravels and lemon. These soils, light and fresh, fit very well for the white varieties.
Our Mediterranean climate has a slight continental influence, allowing for slow ripening of the grapes and keeping a very low humidity throughout the year, which protects against fungal diseases of the vine.
At Heretat de Cesilia they work their soil without synthetic chemicals, using only products such as sulfur and copper. Since 2009, they converted all their vineyards under organic production standards. The work begins by rejecting all plant protection products or synthetic chemical fertilizers, but they must also avoid intensive productions.
These practices allow them to obtain wines deeper, more personal expression, wines with soul.
