One of the peculiarities of the Valencia Denominación de Origen is its further division into four subzones: Alto Turia, Valentino, Moscatel de Valencia and Clariano. Perhaps the most distinctive in terms of both landscape and wines is the most southerly, Clariano, just the Valencia side of Alicante. Pago Casa Gran has the good sense and good fortune to be here, in Moixent (Mogente in Spanish).
This is a beautiful, high, fertile spot, with a microclimate that is particularly unappealing to bugs and pests, and so just right for organic farming and winemaking. Several bodegas in the area have chosen this path, not to occupy a niche in the market but to get a real expression of the product of this landscape.
Like many bodegas in the Comunitat Valenciana, Pago Casa Gran is a family bodega, but with a new generation at the helm determined to make the best wines possible, understanding the vines and grapes of the estate, treating each in the most appropriate and natural way and avoiding especially all unnecessary processes or the use of any chemicals in the winery. The results are there to be enjoyed in their exciting “Reposo” and “Falcata” ranges of red and white wines.
